Challenge Yourself: Join Team Revolution
Do you want to challenge yourself in 2011? Have you been thinking about running a 5K or 10K for the first time or maybe for the best time? Are you a cyclist looking to finish 100 miles? Or have you always wanted to try road cycling and want to see how far you can go?
Is there a cancer survivor in your life that you want to honor? Or are you just sick of cancer always thinking it can win and want to prove it wrong in a big way?
The annual Philadelphia LIVESTRONG Challenge is a great way to challenge yourself and give back to the cancer community. The Challenge weekend is inspiring, uplifting, emotional, fun, exhausting and something you are guaranteed never to forget.
Over the past four years Team Revolution has experienced it all. First-time century riders and first-time riders. Our team members have been top fundraisers, and top finishers in the 5K. We have walkers, runners and official volunteers. We have fallen off our bikes and climbed back on. We have pedaled through downpours and gorgeous sunny days. We have given roses to cancer survivors. And each of us has pounded our fists crossing over that finish line as we are cheered to our own personal victories.
Come join us in 2011! On August 20-21 we will run, walk, ride, volunteer, cheer and celebrate ourselves and the cancer fighters in our lives. On Saturday our runners and walkers will take the stage, cheered on by teammates. The morning events will be followed by a team BBQ and pool party (and bike workshop). On Saturday night, everyone will meet for a pasta dinner and team celebration. After an early night to bed, we will get up before sunrise on Sunday and set off to road bike with thousands of people across the rolling (and unforgiving) hills of the Pennsylvania countryside.
This annual series of cycling and running/walking events takes place in cities across the country, enabling anyone to support LIVESTRONG’s mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer. Walk or run in the 5K or 10K or challenge yourself to a 10-, 20-, 45-, 70- or 100-mile ride. It costs $45 to register for one event or $75 if you want to run on Saturday AND ride on Sunday. The minimum level of fundraising is $250 per person (no minimum for the 5K or 10k).
There are two steps to joining the team: 1) Download and complete the form (below) and e-mail or mail it to the team captain, Nicole Bender. 2) Visit the official Challenge Web site and register through LIVESTRONG for Team Revolution.
As a team member we ask you to:
- Sign up to walk, run or bike in the Challenge or volunteer/cheer in Philly;
- Fundraise at least $250 and recruit more team members; and
- Consider helping with Team Revolution fundraising events leading up to the Challenge.
In addition to participating together in the Challenge, there are other benefits of joining the team. This year we booked a hotel with discount rates only six miles from the Challenge site. You have the option of purchasing a team t-shirt and a jersey. We have brand new designs in 2011! We also hold training rides throughout the summer at Hains Point in Washington D.C. Upon receipt of the form and any payment, we will sign you up for the team e-mail and newsletter list - and start keeping you informed of team activities throughout the year.
