The Story of Team Revolution
David and Nicole Bender founded Team Revolution in 2007 to raise money for LIVESTRONG. They started the team to honor Nicole’s mother, Renée Miller, who was in the middle of the fight of her life against lung cancer.
Nicole and her mother spent months bringing together friends and family to form a team of 20 members to participate in the 2007 Lance Armstrong Foundation LIVESTRONG Challenge in Philadelphia – to help raise money for cancer research and community programs. In that first year, the team was able to raise more than $21,000 for the Foundation. It was an incredible success!
Nicole’s mom passed away three days before the 2007 Challenge. But she was there with us every pedal push and every step along the way. And she was in all of our hearts as we crossed the finish line.
Over the next three years, Team Revolution returned to the LIVESTRONG Philadelphia Challenge. The team has grown to nearly 50 participants and we hope to make it bigger each year. In total since the first year, our team has raised more than $65,000 for LIVESTRONG.
Each year we have walked, cycled, volunteered and cheered in honor of Nicole’s mom, and for friends, and dads, moms, and grandparents and aunts and uncles and each other. The LIVESTRONG Challenge is about each and every one of us and our personal battles against this horrible disease.
Team Revolution continues to grow and we are coming back even stronger in 2011. We plan to be one of the largest teams at the Challenge on August 20-21, 2011. And we will continue to raise much needed money to support LIVESTRONG’s mission. Please consider joining our team or donating to one of our participants. If you are a local business, please consider a sponsorship. We welcome you to spend time on our site and find out more about our impressive group of friends and family dedicated to eliminating the threat of cancer in our lifetime.
